Today was a busy day of computer work, new lessons and presentations. We started off with time in the computer lab. Students worked on their 'Top 10 Things' partner assignments and uploaded photos to their google photo albums. Tomorrow we'll spend more time uploading photos for those that didn't finish today. We enjoyed getting to know each other more with our 'Photographer Spotlight' time. We actually started our 'Photographer Spotlight' yesterday and got to know more about Alexis and Bethany. Photographer Spotlight is an opportunity to learn more about each photographer in our class and about their personal interests. A partner 'introduces' someone to us by sharing 'Top 10 Things' about them. Then the student photographer has an opportunity to tell us even more about themselves and they can share something they bring in from home (That part is optional). Today we heard 'Top 10 Things' presentations about Ingrid, Max H., and Lydia. There is a schedule posted in the classroom for future 'Photographer Spotlight' days.
Later we had presentations to share Photo Scavenger Hunt pictures. It was really fun to see the unique pictures each team captured during the challenge. Then we had another 'Elements of Photography' lesson and learned about Line. We ended with getting directions for a new photo assignment and project. Tomorrow will start with photographers finding unique ways to show line in a picture. They will also do an 'alphabet photography' project and find creative ways to frame 'lines' to create the letters of their name. Alphabet Photography projects will be on display at open house! :)

We had a wonderful trip to Makally Photography Studio today! Jodi shared all about her career as a photographer. She talked about her camera equipment including different lenses and special lights she uses for indoor photography. She also showed us backgrounds, wall covers, flooring, and props that can completely change the look of a picture. We enjoyed getting a tour of her studio and at the end she took a group picture!
Makally Photography in Instrgram: https://www.instagram.com/makallyphotography/ Wow - it's already the end of Week 1! Yesterday we had a really successful field trip. We started at the Minneapolis Institute of Art and enjoyed exploring the photography galleries before we walked around other rooms. Later we had a picnic lunch beside the Stone Arch Bridge and then enjoyed a beautiful walk on and around the bridge. The weather was gorgeous and everyone took lots of great pictures!
Today's been another busy day. We started the day in the computer lab working on our interview project and uploading pictures. We talked about 'Perspective' today and ended the day with a team Photo Scavenger Hunt. On Monday we have a special field trip to visit a photo studio! Jodi Elkins is the photographer behind Makally Photography. She specializes in candid and portrait photography and does sessions both outdoors around the Twin Cities and in her studio in Maple Grove. You can enjoy her website here: http://www.makally.com/ Stay tuned for photos of our first week! Happy Wednesday to everyone! Day 2 in Photo Academy class was successful - despite a few changes in the agenda. We started the day with an activity called 'By the Numbers' to get to know each other better. Then we moved into continuing to work on our "Top 10 Things" Interview/Photo Project. We also started our Picture of the Day routine. Almost every day we'll look at a picture - some famous, some not - and reflect and discuss the details of the photograph that make it unique. Ask your photographer about the picture they looked at today (Afghan Girl by. Steve McCurry).
Later in the day we had our first Elements of Photography Lesson - 'Rule of Thirds'. We also had a really brief lesson about perspective so that photographers could work on their first photo assignment: taking pictures of their interviewee and applying rule of thirds and perspective to their photographs. I'm looking forward to seeing how they turn out! Tomorrow we're off on our first field trip! We'll be exploring photography as a fine art at the Minneapolis Institute of Art and then take pictures around the Stone Arch Bridge. It should be a beautiful day! We had a wonderful first day in Photo Academy - Learning to Click! We spent part of our day talking about our schedule and routine details at Summer Academy. Then we did an activity to get to know each other more, learned about the history of photography, and started a 'Top 10' student interview/photography project. We also unpacked our new cameras and talked about their basic parts and features. Tomorrow we'll be using the cameras for the first time as we learn some composition elements of photography.
Thursday is our first field trip! We'll be going to the Minneapolis Institute of Art and then to the Stone Arch Bridge. Be sure your student wears their Summer Academy t-shirt and brings their lunch. Just a reminder - dismissal on Thursday is at 2:30pm. I'm looking forward to another great day tomorrow! |
